Privacy Policy
NutritionFlow is built local-first. Your meals, profile, and insights live on your device. There's no account, no ad tracking, and nothing is sold. This page explains, plainly, the few places data leaves your device and why.
What's stored, and where
Meals you log, your dietary profile, and any habit patterns NutritionFlow detects are stored locally on your device. There is no account or login, and NutritionFlow does not operate a server-side database of user data.
Optional AI Explanations
Pattern detection is fully rule-based and happens entirely on your device — nothing about this depends on AI. If you enable AI Explanations (Profile → Privacy, on by default, toggle off anytime), NutritionFlow sends a short, minimal description of an already-detected pattern — never your full meal log, never a photo — to NutritionFlow's own backend service, which relays it to an AI provider purely to phrase an explanation in plain language. The AI never decides whether a pattern exists; it only explains one the rule engine already found. The backend does not log or store the contents of these requests.
Meal photos
If you use Analyze with a photo, the image is processed entirely on-device using Apple's on-device text recognition. The photo itself is never uploaded anywhere — only the extracted text continues into the analysis, and only if AI Explanations are enabled does that text (not the photo) ever leave your device.
Barcode scanning
If you scan a packaged food's barcode, only the barcode number is sent — with no account, device identifier, or other personal data attached — to Open Food Facts, a free, non-commercial, open food database, to look up the product. This happens only when you choose to scan, and you can always enter a food manually instead.
Optional Apple Health import
NutritionFlow can optionally read your age range and biological sex from Apple Health, only if you explicitly tap "Import from Apple Health" in Profile → Dietary Profile. This is used solely to personalize educational reference ranges. NutritionFlow never requests permission to write to Apple Health, and skipping this entirely has no effect on how the app works.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of your data with data brokers.
- No account system — nothing to link your data to an identity.
Deleting your data
You can delete all logged meals, summaries, and insights at any time from Profile → Privacy → Delete All Nutrition Data. Because everything is stored on-device, this takes effect immediately. Uninstalling the app removes everything as well.
Children
NutritionFlow is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
